Glaucoma is a different eye condition characterized by increased pressure within the eye that can damage the optic nerve and lead to vision loss. While glaucoma is a serious eye disease, it does not result from the degeneration of the center of the retina that characterizes macular degeneration.

Cataracts involve clouding of the eye's natural lens, leading to blurry vision and visual disturbances. This condition is not directly related to degeneration of the center of the retina.
