ATI TEAS 7 Science: what ATI tests, how the 60-minute block works, and how to prepare

50 questions · 60 minutes, third section on exam day, after Reading, Mathematics, and the scheduled break

This guide is for the Science subject on ATI TEAS 7: 50 questions · 60 minutes on the live ATI exam. ATI mixes human anatomy and physiology, life and physical science, and scientific reasoning in one sitting.

Official ATI TEAS 7 policies and registration: Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI). Poker Exams is independent; our ATI TEAS 7 Science Exams practice quizzes are not the live ATI exam.

How Science fits the full ATI TEAS 7

The live exam is 170 questions · 209 minutes in a fixed order. Science does not share time with any other section.

ATI’s three Science reporting areas

TEAS 7 Science content is reported under three ATI categories. A single item can touch more than one, for example a blood-pressure graph tests scientific reasoning and cardiovascular A&P.

Human anatomy & physiology Typically the largest share on TEAS 7 Science: organ systems, tissues, homeostasis, structure versus function.
Life & physical science Cell biology, genetics, energy, force, and introductory chemistry framed for health-science contexts.
Scientific reasoning Variables, controls, study design, tables and graphs, and whether a conclusion follows from the data.

High-yield topics for TEAS 7 Science

Anatomy & physiology (ATI emphasis)

  • Directional terms, planes, cavities, and major organ locations
  • Skeletal and muscular basics, including joint movement and contraction language
  • Cardiovascular pathway: chambers, valves, pulmonary vs. systemic flow, pulse and pressure ideas
  • Respiratory mechanics, gas exchange, and ventilation vs. perfusion
  • Digestive tract order, absorption, and enzyme roles at overview depth
  • Urinary: nephron, filtration, reabsorption, and fluid balance cues
  • Endocrine feedback (for example insulin/glucagon, ADH)
  • Nervous: CNS vs. PNS, reflex arc, sympathetic vs. parasympathetic responses
  • Immune: innate vs. adaptive, inflammation, vaccination concept

Life science on TEAS 7

  • Organelles, transport, mitosis vs. meiosis
  • Central dogma and basic inheritance vocabulary
  • Punnett-square style probability (not full genetics coursework)
  • Photosynthesis and cellular respiration inputs and outputs
  • Ecology: populations, limiting factors, energy in ecosystems

Chemistry & physics at TEAS difficulty

  • Atoms, periodic trends, ionic vs. covalent bonding, polarity and water
  • pH, acids and bases, simple reaction language
  • Solutions, concentration terms, and unit sense (no calculator on TEAS)
  • Force, motion, work, simple machines, and energy forms

Scientific method & data on this section

  • Independent vs. dependent variables and control groups
  • Interpreting line graphs, bar charts, and short experiment summaries
  • Correlation vs. causation and overstated conclusions
  • Metric prefixes and conversions when a science item embeds numeric reasoning

What happens when you sit ATI TEAS 7 Science

After Mathematics you get a 10-minute break, then Science begins on a fresh 60-minute clock. Time from Reading or Math does not carry over.

  • Expect 50 Science items on the scored TEAS 7 form, plus additional unscored pretest items mixed through the full exam. ATI does not label which are pretest, so answer every Science item as if it counts.
  • Item types are multiple choice with four options; you may see short passages with follow-up questions or standalone stems.
  • No calculator is permitted on TEAS 7 Science; numbers are chosen for mental math or estimation.
  • Diagrams (heart, nephron, cell, etc.) and experiment tables are common; read labels before the answer choices.
  • You can move within the Science section until you submit it; there is no penalty for guessing on TEAS.
TEAS 7 Science pacing: 60 minutes for 50 questions is about 72 seconds each. If you are behind at the 20-minute mark, bank time by answering recall items cleanly and returning to dense reasoning or diagram items once.

Strategies that match ATI TEAS 7 Science items

  1. Study by organ system the way ATI blends A&P (cardiovascular + related hormones in one block).
  2. Sketch pathways (blood flow, nephron, reflex arc). TEAS often asks “what happens next if…”
  3. Link term → function → clue (for example medulla and filtration) instead of isolated vocabulary lists.
  4. Narrate graphs in one sentence before you look at distractors.
  5. Eliminate answers that break physiology or contradict the passage, then guess if needed.

Mistakes we see on TEAS 7 Science prep

  • Drilling college organic chemistry while skipping integrated A&P scenarios ATI actually asks.
  • Memorizing bone lists without joint or muscle action context.
  • Treating reasoning-heavy Science items as “Reading” and leaving easy Science points on the table.
  • Losing the section clock on one diagram when several one-step recall items were still open.
  • Using a professor’s chapter order instead of ATI’s mixed reporting categories.

Four-week plan aimed at TEAS 7 Science

Week 1: Body organization plus chemistry/physics refresh aligned to TEAS (atoms, bonds, pH, units). Short mixed Science-style sets daily.

Week 2: Cardiovascular, respiratory, and fluid balance; finish each day with one experiment-style passage.

Week 3: Digestive, urinary, endocrine, nervous, and immune topics; draw pathways every other day.

Week 4: Full 60-minute Science blocks using the 5 ATI TEAS 7 Science Exams quizzes on this page (213 practice questions) ; review every missed rationale the same day.

ATI TEAS 7: Science practice

5 quizzes for the ATI TEAS 7 Science Exams subject on this course (213 questions). Use them to rehearse Science content before you sit the official exam, not as a substitute for ATI registration or policies.

Science: frequently asked questions

How many Science questions are on the ATI TEAS 7?
The scored ATI TEAS 7 Science section includes 50 questions in 60 minutes. Additional unscored pretest items may appear anywhere on the full exam; treat every Science item as if it counts.
Can I use a calculator on TEAS 7 Science?
No. ATI does not allow a calculator on the Science section. Items use numbers you can estimate or compute mentally.
What three areas does ATI TEAS 7 Science cover?
Human anatomy and physiology, life and physical science, and scientific reasoning. Questions often blend categories, for example a graph about blood pressure tests reasoning and cardiovascular content.
When does the Science section start on test day?
Science is the third section, after Reading and Mathematics. You receive a scheduled break after Math, then Science runs on its own 60-minute timer.
Is Poker Exams the same as the official ATI TEAS exam?
No. Poker Exams offers independent practice quizzes for ATI TEAS 7 subjects such as ATI TEAS 7 Science Exams. Registration, scoring, and policies for the live exam are handled by ATI.
