At the end of each class, the students work in groups to summarize what they have learned. How does using this technology best contribute to better literacy for the ELLs?

While note-taking is beneficial, it primarily aids in retention and recall rather than comprehension. Note-taking alone does not ensure that ELLs will fully understand the vocabulary in context, as comprehension also relies heavily on their listening and interpretive skills during discussions.

Summarizing certainly contributes to improving writing skills; however, it is a secondary benefit that follows after the initial understanding of content through listening. Without the foundational comprehension gained from active listening, the summarization process may not be as effective.

Group work can foster social interaction and may improve pronunciation and intonation; however, this choice does not directly address literacy in the context of understanding content from the podcasts. The primary focus here should be on how listening enhances comprehension, which is not guaranteed through group work alone.
